Beryl D. Averbook

 

 AVERBOOK, MD FACS , Beryl D.

(86), a retired surgeon died of natural causes early Sunday morning after a lengthy illness and following a prolonged hospitalization. He was born in Superior, Wisconsin 1920. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BS in Pharmacy and Phi Beta Kappa. He then did his postgraduate work at the same institution where he obtained his MD. He was both a licensed physician and pharmacist. He continued his residency training to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery practicing general and vascular surgery. He was a Captain in MC USA. He became Chief of Surgical Services at Los Angeles County Harbor General Hospital 1954-61 and then entered into private practice in Torrance, CA in 1961. His professional career spanned over 56 years. He was an active member in multiple medical and specialty surgical societies. He was listed in Who's Who in America 2006.

He was a loving husband and father, dedicated physician, good friend to many and loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife: Gloria Averbook of Los Angeles, CA; two sons: Allen Averbook, MD of Pinehurst, NC and Bruce Averbook, MD of Cleveland, OH; and his sisters Miriam Oxman, Phyllis Sarto, Barbara Snider and Ahna Lu Rose.

Services will be today, Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Park , 6001 W. Centinela Ave., (800) 576-1994.
